Elden Ring: Relics in Nightreign
Relics are a key component of Nightreign's roguelite progression system, offering permanent upgrades that allow you to customize and strengthen your Nightfarer over multiple runs. Here's everything you need to know about how they work and how to obtain them:
What Are Relics?
Relics are permanent accessories that you can equip for your Nightfarer, providing various benefits. These provide different bonuses depending on the type and color of the Relic, and they add a layer of customization to how you approach each expedition. Relics are tied to your progress, meaning the longer and more successfully you can survive in the game, the better quality Relics you can obtain.
Each Nightfarer has three Relic slots, which can be filled with Relics corresponding to specific colored slots.
Character-Specific Relic Slots
Each Nightfarer has different colored slots for Relics, and you'll need to match the right Relic color to the character's slots. Here are the color-coded slots for each class:
Wylder:
Red - Red - Blue
Wylder can equip Red and Blue Relics.
Guardian:
Red - Red - Yellow
Guardian has Red and Yellow Relic slots, ideal for tanky or defensive enhancements.
Duchess:
Green - Green - Green
Duchess is suited for Green Relics, which are likely associated with agility and magic-focused boosts.
Recluse:
Green - Green - Red
Recluse has a mix of Green and Red Relics, possibly focusing on hybrid agility and power-based buffs.
How to Obtain Relics
Relics are not handed to you at the start. To get them, you will need to complete expeditions. Here's the progression:
Winning or Losing Doesn't Affect Access to Relics: Regardless of the outcome of your expeditions, you will always earn Relics.
Better Relics for Better Runs: The quality of the Relics depends on how far you progress in the three-day cycle of the game. If you reach the final boss on Day 3 and complete the run, you'll likely receive higher-tier Relics.
After completing an expedition, you will receive Relics, along with Murk.
What Is Murk?
Murk is an in-game currency you earn by completing expeditions and selling unwanted Relics. While the full functionality of Murk is still being explored, here's what we know so far:
Item Description: "Traces of lost grace used for bartering in the Roundtable Hold."
Uses for Murk:
Relic Rites: This allows you to swap Relic colors for your Nightfarer to maximize your build. By using Murk, you can change your character's Relic slots to better suit your desired playstyle.
Purchase Gestures and Skins: You can also use Murk to unlock gestures (emotes) and character skins, adding cosmetic customization options to your gameplay.
Relic Rites: Customization and Strategy
The Relic Rites table in the Roundtable Hold is where you will manage your Relics. At the table, you can:
Equip Relics to your Nightfarer.
Switch Relic colors to better match your build by using Murk.
Customize your character's playstyle and optimize your run.
Given that Relics can be upgraded and bartered using Murk, you'll want to keep an eye out for stronger Relics as you progress through your expeditions. The longer and more successful your run, the stronger your Relics will become, and the more Murk you'll collect to further enhance your Nightfarer.
Strategic Use of Relics
Class-Specific Relics: Choose Relics based on your class's needs. For instance, Wylder may benefit from offensive and mobility-focused Relics, while Guardian could prioritize defensive Relics for tanking.
Upgrading Relics: Use Murk to get higher-quality Relics. The more Murk you accumulate, the more powerful the Relics you can equip.
Synergize with Playstyle: Experiment with different Relic combinations to optimize your gameplay. For example, pairing status effect boosting Relics with high-damage weapons can make you a powerful force on the battlefield.
With the integration of Relics and Murk, Nightreign is shaping up to be a deeply customizable experience that allows players to tweak and optimize their builds between each run. As you unlock more Relics and experiment with different strategies, you'll be able to take on increasingly difficult challenges in this ever-evolving, roguelike world.
