Path of Exile 2: How to Use the Reforging Bench
The Reforging Bench is a workstation you can unlock in Act 3 that combines three items to create one new one. This is a great way to clear out some space in your Stash or re-roll the stats on an item you enjoy to potentially improve it. If you want to know more about how to use the Reforging Bench, you will find everything you need to know in this PoE2 guide.
How to Unlock the Reforging Bench
This quest will send you to the Molten Vault, which you can access from the Drowned City. Fight your way through the Molten Vault and defeat Mektul, the Forgemaster, to complete the quest. Mektul will drop an item called the Hammer of the Kamasa, which is what you need to unlock the Reforging Bench.
Mektul is a huge boss who hits hard and deals some incredible damage. Gearing up with some fire resistance is recommended before this fight, as you aren't just going up against Mektul. You will also have to deal directly with the lava in the forge.
Thankfully, Mektul is on the slow side, and there are many windows of opportunity for you to attack. The biggest window will be when he wades back into the lava, where he stays for quite some time. You will have to dodge some lava waves when he gets there, but if you have any cold-based spells, that would be a great time to use them.
Once you've taken down Mektul, the Forgemaster, head back to town and give Oswald the good news. Then, you will be free to start using the Reforging Bench.
How to Use the Reforging Bench
The Reforging Bench takes three copies of the same item and creates a new one of the same type. All three items must match not only in type but also in rarity. If you have a magic item, all three need to be magic for the process to work. If you want to reforge a rare item, you will need two more rare ones of the same type.
Place your three items in the slots along the bottom and press Reforge. The Reforging Bench will take all three items and re-roll them, giving you a new item of the same type but with different modifiers.
The Reforging Process appears to be random, which means you won't always get something better. You might end up with a lower-level item with stats you like even less than the ones you did before. But if you have a surplus of items you weren't using anyway, you might as well see if you can get something better out of them and clear out some space in your Stash!
