Skull And Bones: How To Get Casting Sand

Mar-31-2025 PST

Your first ship upgrade in Skull and Bones is a major step up from the small Dhow used in the opening acts. While the main quest helps guide you through the process of obtaining a better ship, future upgrades are up to you. Even after getting the proper blueprints, you'll also need to hunt down plenty of materials to properly equip your ships.

Several blueprints used for crafting Ship weapons, armor, and furniture all require Casting Sand. This item is a Specialized Material that can be easily obtained by looting ships on Trade Routes. You can also purchase Casting Sand from specific vendors if you've got the Silver.

Where To Find Casting Sand

Near the Coast of Africa on the northeast side, there are several Trade Routes where ships carrying Casting Sand will travel. To find these ships, you must open your Codex and go to the Specialized Materials section.

From here, you can select Casting Sand to track areas where this material can be found. The ships carrying Casting Sand are typically part of the Confederation of Ungwana, so it's best to ignore ships belonging to other organizations.

As you move along the Trade Route of your choice, use your Spyglass on nearby ships to reveal what Skull and Bones items they're carrying. Once you find a ship carrying Casting Sand, engage in combat until the ship is at half health or less. Then, you should move close to the ship and execute a Crew Boarding to gain additional loot.
