What Diablo IV players say about Ghost of the Treasure

Jul-01-2023 PST

Diablo IV's treasure ghosts aren't particularly dangerous or scary. In fact, most players are so excited when one of these weirdos shows up that they can’t attack and get good loot if they kill them. However, some high-level players are so hungry for Treasure Leprechauns that some players consider it a mistake.

Diablo IV Gold is the latest dungeon crawler in Blizzard's long-running The Haunted series. It’s a beautiful game and I’ve spent hours on it. Admittedly, I wish this gothic horror-themed RPG had an extra skill slot, but it's still one of 2023's best games. Like all video games, Diablo IV isn’t perfect. For example, an in-game mod seems to inadvertently turn a harmless vault into a nuclear weapon that can kill even the most powerful Diablo characters in one hit.

According to IGN and Icy Ways, some Diablo IV players have been destroyed by randomly generated treasure chests. In one instance, a High-level hardcore character killed someone in the Nightmare dungeon and then perished only seconds later.

Strangely, the ghosts didn't attack because they couldn't attack, and there were no other enemies or traps in the room. Yes?

Well, buy Diablo 4 Gold has an in-game modifier "Death Pulse" that triggers a "Death Pulse" immediately after killing a monster. Players using this mod are apparently destroyed by Dead Treasure Ghost's explosive power pulses.

In normal gameplay, this is just a funny passing coincidence. But for high-level hardcore players, this is frustrating because once their character is dead, that’s it. There is no rebirth. What a strange and annoying way to crop.

Some players believe that this was unintentional and that this conversation between the Death Pals and the Goblin was actually a fatal mistake. Several people on the official Diablo forums have shared stories of high-level hardcore characters dying as a result of Death Pulse + Treasure Leprechaun. For some players, this doesn’t make sense. They believe their characters are strong enough to withstand most attacks in the game. Those blows seem to have devastated him.

This is also evidenced by the contents of the game's Hall of Fallen Heroes, where every dead nemesis is documented for their descendants. It states that his cause of death was "killed by an unknown assassin" when the Treasure Goblin's death pulse killed him. Hmm

MMOexp asked Blizzard for clarification.

While we wait to see if this is truly a random bug, I would suggest that hardcore Diablo IV players use Death Pulse to avoid the treasures for now. No booty is worth your life.

Blizzard confirmed to MMOexp that this was due to a bug, "This is a known issue and will be addressed in a future patch prior to the start of Season 1."
